Established in 1973 as a subsidiary of Sabancı Holding, Kordsa is market leader in tire reinforcement processes and provides nylon and polyester fibers to Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers of automobile manufacturers. Kordsa’s new investment of Excellence Center of Composite Technologies is built for the needs of Automotive industry with industry leading manufacturing technologies. Kordsa’s industry leading experiences and deep understanding in polymer compounding/synthesis, fiber manufacturing, weaving and coating/dipping of cord tires were transferring to its prepreg design and manufacturing business.

Utilization of composites parts in Automotive Industry is growing thanks to new regulations of CO2 emission lowering in Europe (95 g in 2020 and to 75 g in 2025) and newly growing the weight loss needs for vehicle range expansion per charge in Electrical Car Market.

Due to long part manufacturing times of previous generation of composite manufacturing techniques and composite materials cannot reach the takt time of Automotive Industry.  Another barrier for composites in the automotive industry is the initial investment and operation costs of Autoclaves. This two main reasons limited previous generation prepregs to be used in volume car productions and restricted the composite use in luxurious segments. Current generation press curable, fast resins and their prepregs opened the new possibility of use of prepregs in volume car production.

Kordsa developed CM10 and CM11, fast curing visual prepregs for press curing for the needs of visual parts used in Automotive Industry. Their short curing cycle and hot de-moldable nature are especially optimized for mass production at Automotive Industry. CM10 is Low Tg version of CM11, CM11 is Mid Tg and suitable for hot painting, hot gluing and cataphoresis processes. New resin systems not only cures under 3 minutes at 150°C at press under isothermal curing conditions but also hot de-moldable and long out-life of two weeks at ambient temperature. These extreme conditions does not affect the visual Performance of prepreg system with CM10 and CM11, capable of Class A Surface. Drapability is suitable for press molds and low to medium tack optimized for press curing.

OM14, a fast curing structural prepreg for press curing for the needs of structural parts used in Automotive Industry. Its short curing cycle and hot de-moldable nature are especially optimized for mass production at Automotive Industry with the addition of exceptionally long out life at room temperature. OM14 eliminates the need of Autoclave and Cold storage plus it is especially optimized for mass production. New resin system not only cures under 1-2 minutes at 150°C at press under isothermal curing conditions but also hot de-moldable and long out-life of one year at ambient temperature.

OM10 and OM13 are highly toughened structural prepreg for press and autoclave curing for the needs of structural parts used in Automotive Industry. OM10 is low Tg an OM13 is Mid TG and suitable for hot painting, hot gluing and cataphoresis processes. OM10 and OM13 cures at both press and Autoclave with long out-life of 4 weeks at ambient temperature.

EF10, EF11 and EF13 are also highly toughened High Tg prepregs can be cured with autoclave and used in extreme applications in automotive industry.

OM12, a resin structural prepreg that specifically customized for oven curing for the needs of structural parts used in Automotive Industry. OM12 eliminates the need of Autoclave and Press.

OM11, a resin structural prepreg that specifically customized for fatigue resistance part production in Automotive Industry. OM11 can be curable with Autoclave and Press.

All prepregs are available as UD and various weaving styles of Carbon, Glass and Aramid.
